Making Algebra Child's Play! ®
The Day1 Hands-On Equations® Workshop

Duration:1 Day
Target Audience:Teachers grades 3 to 8
Registration Fee:$175

This one day workshop empowers teachers to understand and use    the visual, kinesthetic and pictorial Hands-On Equations teaching methodology to successfully present essential algebraic concepts to students in grades 3 to 8. By "breaking the code of algebra," Hands-On Equations empowers students to work with sophisticated-looking algebraic concepts, thereby enhancing their self-esteem and their interest in mathematics.

By participating in this workshop, you will:

  • See a live student demonstration with young students
  • Learn how to physically represent algebraic linear equations
  • Understand the "legal moves" which may used to solve equations
  • Experience the "teacher-as-the-coach" mode of instruction
  • Understand the power of Piagetian learning
  • Enable your students to understand and solve equations such as 4x + 2 = 2x + 10 and 2(x+3) = 2x + 7 in just six lessons
  • Learn the pictorial representation for solving equations
  • Use the game pieces to set and solve verbal problems
    Example :
"Find three consecutive odd numbers whose sum is 21."
    Example:
"Sally is 4 years older than Tim. If the sum of their ages is 20, how old is each?'
  • Learn how to work with the white pawn, which is the opposite of the blue pawn and solve equations such as x + 2 = 4 - x.
  • Learn a meaningful way to teach addition and subtraction of integers
  • Receive an individual set of Hands-On Equations (complete program for use with one student at a time)

Obtain a complimentary registration and class set of materials! Provide a group of 3rd, 4th and/or 5th graders without prior experience with Hands-On Equations for the student demonstration and receive a complimentary admission and class set. Contact us at 800-993-6284 to see if we are still in need of children for the workshop site of interest to you.
